The foreign-drone decision is now a parts-and-support decision.
The FCC's 2026 covered-list expansion changed the buying question. Operators comparing DJI and XAG against US-positioned platforms need to price continuity of parts, batteries, service and approvals, not only acres per hour.
The January 2026 FCC action expanded covered-list concern to foreign UAS and components. The practical effect is uncertainty rather than an instant conclusion about every aircraft already in service.
For a buyer, that uncertainty belongs in the purchase model. Before committing, confirm:
- the precise model's current authorization
- the dealer's parts position
- battery and charger availability
- the warranty path
- whether the operating plan can tolerate downtime
US alternatives are accelerating
The same pressure is accelerating US-positioned alternatives. Hylio, Pyka, Ceres Air, Exedy, Revolution Drones and Elevon represent very different payload classes and commercial stages. "US-made" should still be checked component by component and supported by current documentation.
